Dora Tkalec

Based in Tampere, Finland
A teacher by training and a gardener at heart. Her passion for growing healthy food and finding that divine taste of a ripe tomato from her childhood led her to the path of permaculture. There, she delved into the magical properties of compost and recognized the fundamental role of soil in functioning ecosystems. In 2019, when she moved to Finland with her family, she finally had the chance to join Dr. Elaine’s school. Since 2020, she has been working as a project manager, composting expert, and educator at an agricultural vocational school. She developed a composting process for the school’s dairy farm, taught students the magic of composting, and gave numerous courses and lectures to landscape professionals and gardeners alike through several EU and national projects. She has collaborated with several farms on developing composting processes and conducted successful trials in their own contexts. She is particularly interested in utilizing farms’ animal manure to create the perfect soil amendment, thereby optimizing the nutrient cycling on farms. She is convinced that understanding the complexity of natural systems and selfless human cooperation can lead humanity to the better world our hearts know is possible.
