Leslie W. Lewis, Ph.D.

Leslie Lewis worked in higher education for almost four decades. After receiving her Ph.D. with a focus in the humanities, she taught widely at numerous institutions. Her later career focused on liberal arts education, and she supported the interdisciplinary humanities and sciences as Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College and Provost at Goucher College in Baltimore.

Leslie came to the study of soil health as an academic researcher and writer as well as a long- time organic grower. While teaching a course on regenerative farming, sustainability, and the food system, she met Elaine Ingham at a conference in 2020. This began her journey with the Soil Food Web school, including completing the microscopy and consulting programs.

Leslie is passionate about hands-on learning, and equally passionate about the pursuit of knowledge through research. Her early years on her family’s farm are her touchstone for real- world practicality and a deep well of commitment to regenerative agriculture and ecosystem restoration.
