Overview

Designed specifically for students enrolled in the Soil Food Web’s Introduction to Ecosystem Restoration (IER) program, this 6-day intensive workshop bridges online ecological theory with direct physical practice. Hosted by Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner Paul Morris and his team at the Earth Connection Center Biological Reserve in Yucatán, Mexico, participants get the rare opportunity to work directly on 39 hectares of dry tropical forest undergoing active biological restoration.

Throughout the 6 days, students conduct reference site assessments, practice species identification and soil data collection, develop tree nursery skills, build habitat structures, and craft a real-world restoration plan for a plot of land on site. The workshop provides actionable, hands-on experience in eliminating ecosystem degradation factors, engaging local communities, and launching scalable restoration projects in highly biodiverse environments.
